High protein, low grocery bill
Greg and I are getting older. I know, it's crazy but it's true. I swear my brain thinks I'm 29, but alas my body says otherwise. Back in my adventure racing and mountain bike racing days, I used to work out so much that I didn't worry too much about my food intake. I mean, I tried to eat enough to fuel my adventures but didn't ever worry about eating too much when I wasn't racing.
Of course, a lot has changed since then. I pay much more attention to work than I did in my racing days which means I sit at the desk for way too long. And of course, aging has slowed down my already slow as a sloth metabolism. So now I'm much more aware of the quality and quantity of food I eat.
It felt like Greg and I were both limiting our food intake but still slowly gaining weight so I decided to change the plan. We are both increasing our daily protein intake. We got some help from my Crossfit Coach Bob Fystro and are getting some motivation from RP Strength. Luckily poke, sashimi and carne asada are still on our menu! Unfortunately, cheese is more limited than I'd like.
In just a few weeks, Greg has seen some weight loss, feels much more energetic and is managing his Diverticulosis well with this program. I have very slowly lost a couple of pounds, am feeling energetic and am not starving or missing yummy food.
An unexpected advantage has been our monthly grocery bill. Since being on this program we have saved money, according to my calculations with Mint. Trader Joe's is the way to go! We absolutely love the variety and prices at Trader Joe's. I really think this is a program and we can keep up for the long haul.
